asdf plugin add vim https://github.com/tsuyoshicho/asdf-vim.gitASDF_VIM_TYPE: vim install type [tiny-huge]. defaulthuge.ASDF_VIM_CONFIG: vim install configure arguments. default, see install script.ASDF_VIM_GUI: optional Vim GUI selection passed as--enable-gui=.... If unset andASDF_VIM_CONFIGdoes not specify a GUI, Vim automatically detects available GUI support, so this usually does not need to be set. Supported values areauto,no,gtk2,gnome2,gtk3,gtk4,motif,haiku,photon, andcarbon.
Install the required GUI development libraries before building to enable a GUI. For example:
ASDF_VIM_GUI=gtk3 asdf install vim latestThe +image feature requires a huge build and Pixman development files discoverable through pkg-config as pixman-1. Vim detects and links Pixman automatically.
The default configure arguments contain only --with-compiledby=asdf. Setting ASDF_VIM_CONFIG replaces those defaults. When ASDF_VIM_GUI is set, its value takes precedence over any GUI selection in ASDF_VIM_CONFIG.
To make Pixman support required instead of automatically detected, include --enable-pixman --enable-fail-if-missing in ASDF_VIM_CONFIG, for example:
ASDF_VIM_CONFIG="--with-compiledby=asdf --enable-pixman --enable-fail-if-missing" asdf install vim latest# Show all installable versions
asdf list-all vim
# Install specific version
asdf install vim latest
# Set a version globally (on your ~/.tool-versions file)
asdf global vim latest
# Now vim commands are available
vim --versionCheck asdf readme for more instructions on how to install & manage versions.
