There are an extra 8 bytes before the start of the save object, not sure if this is an Abiotic Factor thing or an Unreal Engine thing. First 4 seem to be bool and the next 4 a serialized size of the save object. Here's a patch with the extra byte serialization, but is not compatible with any other saves.

It might be a specific issue with Abiotic Factor, as the Unreal Engine version is still 5.4(5.4.4.0). However, we don't have any other games on version 5.4 to compare it with.
Perhaps only by examining UE source code can we make it clear.

[trumank]

It's likely specific to Abiotic Factor but I'll have to check with a debugger when I have more time.

Thanks for this, kind of a newbie, how do I install this patch?

[SirPneumono]

Same problem with me here haha, I'm too clueless to figure out how to install the patch.

[trumank]

I made a dedicated branch for it for now: https://github.com/trumank/uesave-rs/tree/patch-abiotic-factor Can be installed via:

cargo install --git https://github.com/trumank/uesave-rs --branch patch-abiotic-factor

Thank you, confirmed working on Abiotic save files now

Thank you, confirmed working on Abiotic save files now

Just to clarify, this patch makes uesave work for the player save file, not any of the other save files, so it's probably too soon to confirm that it works for the game's save files in general like that.

Mind sharing some saves it does not work on?

Maybe those 8 bytes are related to this

    struct FAbioticSaveVersionHeader [sizeof = 24] {
      data +0x00 [sizeof=16] FString FileVerification
      data +0x10 [sizeof=4] int SaveVersion
      <padding> (4 bytes)
    }

    struct FAbioticSaveHeader [sizeof = 4] {
      data +0x00 [sizeof=4] int UncompressedDataSize
    }

[shecrio]

Any chance for progress on this? I can provide save files if they're needed.

For sure! AF-UE54Saves.zip

It's still not clear to me if there are multiple save game classes with different serialization, or if the differences are from different versions of the game, but I hacked together a fix that should be able to handle the various cases I've seen so far.
