Feature Requests, Improvements and Bug Reports #253

Firstly, I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying using INTERCEPT. It is an incredible piece of software, and the amount of functionality already included is extremely impressive.

Bringing together SDR, ADS-B, AIS, LoRa, MeshCore, Meshtastic and other monitoring tools into one platform is a fantastic achievement.

I have been using it quite heavily and wanted to share some suggestions and a few issues I have noticed. These are intended as constructive ideas to help make an already excellent project even better.

SDR Management Improvements

1. Custom SDR Names

It would be really useful to allow users to rename SDR devices.

For example:

● RTL-SDR Airband Antenna

● RTL-SDR ADS-B Antenna

This would be especially useful where multiple SDRs are connected and each one has a dedicated antenna or frequency purpose.

Waterfall and SDR Improvements

2. Improved Waterfall Frequency Management

The waterfall is already a very useful feature, but some extra functionality would make it even more powerful.

Frequency scanning

Ability to scan:

● Saved frequencies only

Examples:

● Scan saved airband frequencies

● Scan custom ranges with gaps

Import / Export Saved Frequencies

Ability to:

● Export saved frequencies

● Import frequency lists

● Share frequency databases

Possible formats:

● CSV

● JSON

● SDR++ bookmarks

Digital Voice Decoding

A way to select a signal from the waterfall and send it directly to a voice decoder would be very useful.

Since most of the digital decoding infrastructure already exists, this would mainly focus on voice extraction and demodulation, rather than full protocol decoding.

Examples:

● DMR (voice only)

● D-Star (voice only)

● Fusion (voice only)

● Other digital voice modes

This would keep the feature lightweight and focused on real-time listening rather than full data analysis.

Auto Squelch Control

Automatic squelch adjustment based on:

● Signal strength

● Background noise

● Activity level

Waterfall Audio / IQ Recording

Ability to record from the waterfall:

● Audio

● IQ samples

● Signal metadata

Including:

● Frequency

● Time

● SDR used

● Location

Signal Identification Improvements

3. Offline Signal Identification

The existing signal identification feature is excellent.

A possible improvement would be making this available offline where possible.

This would be especially useful for:

● Raspberry Pi deployments

● Field use

● Remote locations without internet access

An offline database of known signals and frequencies would make the feature even more powerful. I have an offline excel list of all uk frequencies if needed.

Application Interface Improvements

4. “Kill All Processes” Button

The “kill all processes” option is extremely useful.

Could this also be added to:

● Home screen

● Run state page

At the moment it is not available on all pages, which makes troubleshooting harder.

5. iPad / iPhone Audio Support

Currently I cannot get audio playback working on iPad/iPhone.

A mobile-friendly audio solution would be a great improvement.

Possible options:

● Browser-compatible audio streaming

● Web audio player

● Mobile audio settings

This would make remote monitoring much easier.

6. iPhone / iPad Scrolling Bug (ADS-B and Other Pages)

On iPhone and iPad devices, there is a usability issue on some pages (for example the ADS-B page).

The page does not allow scrolling fully to the bottom, which prevents starting or interacting with the application controls.

This makes it difficult or impossible to:

● Reach the start/run controls

● Access lower page elements

● Fully use the ADS-B interface on mobile devices

It appears to be a layout or viewport scrolling issue specific to iOS Safari (and possibly other mobile browsers).

MeshCore / Meshtastic Improvements

7. Node Search

Some nodes do not appear on the map.

A search function would be very useful:

● Search by node name

● Search by node ID

● Centre map on node

● Show last seen information

8. Map Refresh Issue (Bug)

MeshCore/Meshtastic discovered nodes do not always refresh automatically.

Currently I have to manually refresh the page before newly discovered nodes appear.

9. Display Existing Node Messages

The app already appears to receive messages from the node.

It would be useful if INTERCEPT could automatically display:

● Existing messages stored on the node

● Message history

● Received packets

rather than only showing new activity.

10. Node Tracing Issue (Bug)

The trace node function does not appear to work.

When clicking trace:

● Nothing happens

● No map movement

● No route displayed

ADS-B / AIS Improvements

11. Actually Range Rings

It would be very useful to have true RF coverage rings for ADS-B and AIS. As more aircraft appear the true max range ring will expand to slow.

This would help users understand how effective their antenna setup is.

Missing Freq - 131.825 MHz for the Europe

12. ADS-B Aircraft Linked to Audio

When clicking an ADS-B aircraft, it would be excellent if it could link to the relevant airband frequency.

Possible options:

● Open associated frequency

● Start audio monitoring

● Show last heard transmission

This would create a very powerful aviation monitoring experience.

Mapping Improvements

13. Offline Maps

Offline maps would be extremely useful for:

● Raspberry Pi deployments

● Field monitoring

● Remote locations

● Emergency communications

14. ATAC

Can you please add atak / atak server interface

15. Passwords

May have missed it but somewhere to add users accounts / change the default password

Thank you again for all the work that has gone into INTERCEPT.

It is already an amazing platform, and these suggestions are only from using it in real-world scenarios. The direction of the project is fantastic, and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes next
