Bump pending dependencies from the Renovate dashboard

Issue : #172

Description

Bumps every update that was rate-limited on the Dependency Dashboard (#172) to the version listed there. The one exception is Playwright 1.63 (#440), which Sauce doesn't support yet and stays on hold.

Dependency From To
io.cucumber:* (java, junit, picocontainer, testng) 7.34.6 8.0.4
JUnit (junit-jupiter, junit-jupiter-engine) 6.1.2 6.1.3
com.deque.html.axe-core:selenium 4.12.0 4.13.0
Selenium (selenium-java, -api, -support, -remote-driver) 4.46.0 4.50.0
maven-compiler-plugin 3.15.0 3.16.0
maven-surefire-plugin 3.5.6 3.6.0
actions/setup-java v5 v6
CI JDK (java-jdk) 21 25

Fixes needed for the bumps to work:

  • Selenium 4.50 only ships Chrome DevTools v152–v154, so DevToolsTest imports move from v148 to v154 (Sauce's newest Chrome is 154).
  • Surefire 3.6 removed its TestNG and JUnit 4 providers, so every framework now runs through the JUnit Platform:
    • TestNG retries now work with -Dsurefire.rerunFailingTestsCount directly, so the RetryListener added in Fix iOS real device workflows and use test-runner retries in CI #441 is removed. Keeping it made a failing test run 9 times instead of 3.
    • In selenium-cucumber-examples, the include pattern **/*AT.class no longer matched anything (0 tests ran). It's now **/*AT.java.
    • JUnit 4 <parallel> settings are ignored, so the three JUnit 4 modules ran their tests one at a time. They now use the vintage engine's parallel settings with the same thread counts.

Types of Changes

  • Configuration change
  • Refactor/improvements

Tasks

  • All 11 modules compile with JDK 25
  • DevToolsTest passes 15/15 on Sauce Chrome 154
  • Cucumber 8 finds and runs all 5 scenarios on Sauce
  • Checked under Surefire 3.6 with throwaway local tests: TestNG and JUnit 4 test discovery, retries (flake reporting, one retry layer), and parallel execution
  • CI green on this PR

Deployment Notes

Known issues that already exist on main, not caused by this PR:

  • 3 of the 5 Cucumber scenarios fail on every attempt (missing .shopping_cart_badge / .btn_secondary elements). testFailureIgnore=true hides this, and main's CI shows the same 3 failures.
  • appium-app-best-practice (not run in CI) is already broken: its TestNG suite references a missing Android.DemoSimpleTest class and iOS 14 devices. Surefire 3.6 also stops reading suiteXmlFiles, so the module needs reworking.

- Cucumber 7.34.6 -> 8.0.4, JUnit 6.1.2 -> 6.1.3, axe-core selenium
  4.12.0 -> 4.13.0, Selenium 4.46.0 -> 4.50.0, maven-compiler-plugin
  3.15.0 -> 3.16.0, maven-surefire-plugin 3.5.6 -> 3.6.0,
  actions/setup-java v5 -> v6, CI JDK 21 -> 25.
- Selenium 4.50 ships CDP v152-v154 only: move DevToolsTest to v154.
- Surefire 3.6 runs every framework through the JUnit Platform:
  - TestNG retries now work natively with rerunFailingTestsCount, so
    the custom RetryListener is removed (it doubled up the retries).
  - The cucumber include pattern must use .java instead of .class, or
    no tests are found.
  - JUnit 4 <parallel> settings are ignored, so the JUnit 4 modules use
    the vintage engine's parallel configuration instead.

Sauce creates iOS simulator sessions asynchronously (303 redirects) and
they regularly take longer than Selenium's default 3-minute read
timeout, so EmuSimWebAppTests failed session creation in CI.
