part of #565 (the auto-filter half; in-cell pictures are not implemented, see below).

What was wrong

<autoFilter> columns were read only from <filters><filter val/>. Any <filterColumn> using customFilters, top10, dynamicFilter or dateGroupItem was dropped, so a sheet filtered on two or more columns came back with just its value-list column(s). The writer likewise emitted only value lists. Reproduced on main with a 3-column filter (value, value, custom): the result had two columns, the custom one missing.

What landed

  • AutoFilterColumn (new exported type): filters, blank, dateGroups, custom (and/or, 1-2 conditions), top10, dynamic, hiddenButton. One criterion kind per column, as in CT_FilterColumn.
  • Reader and serializeAutoFilter handle all of them, so read -> write -> read is stable. The stream writer shares the serializer.
  • Colour and icon filters are not carried (they point at a dxfId); documented in docs/PARITY.md and README.
  • docs/PARITY.md also records that Place-in-Cell pictures are not read.
  • Tests: test/autofilter-columns.test.ts (4 of 6 fail against main), the write/read parity register entry now has multi-kind columns, and coverage-xlsx-worksheet had a test pinning the old drop behaviour, now using a colour filter.

Not done: cell-embedded images

Not implemented. The attachments could not be downloaded (github user-attachments URLs returned Not Found), so I had no real Excel file to check a rich-value reader against, and the feature needs a model decision plus write-back, not just a read.

Not verified

  • test2.xlsx / test3.xlsx themselves were never opened; the autofilter fix is verified on programmatically patched sheets, so I cannot confirm the exact criterion kind in test3.
  • Nothing was opened in Excel.

Gate: bun run test passes (246 files, 10848 tests).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Auto-filters now support value lists, blank and date-group entries, custom conditions, top/bottom and percentage filters, and dynamic criteria. Dropdown buttons can also be hidden.
    • Filter settings can be read from and written to XLSX files, including mixed criteria. Unsupported colour and icon criteria are not preserved; sort state is not read.
    • In-cell pictures are not preserved when opening and saving XLSX files, though cached cell values may remain.
  • Documentation
    • Updated feature and compatibility notes to clarify supported and unsupported XLSX filter criteria.

…sts (#565)

Custom, top-10, dynamic and date-group criteria were dropped on read, so a
sheet filtered on several columns came back with only its value-list
columns. PARITY.md also records that Place-in-Cell pictures are not read.

Walkthrough

XLSX auto-filter columns now support parsing and serialization for value, date-group, custom, top-10, and dynamic criteria, plus hidden-button flags. The change exports a public column type, adds tests for parsing and round trips, and updates documentation. Documentation also describes in-cell picture handling.

Changes: Auto-filter criteria

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define the auto-filter column contract
src/_types.ts, src/index.ts, README.md, docs/PARITY.md
AutoFilterColumn defines supported filter criteria and is exported from the root module. The README and parity documentation list supported criteria and note that colour and icon criteria are not carried.
Parse filter-column criteria
src/xlsx/worksheet.ts, test/autofilter-columns.test.ts, test/coverage-xlsx-worksheet.test.ts
The worksheet parser reads supported criteria and retains columns that contain them. Tests cover mixed criteria, date groups, defaults, and omission of colour-only columns.
Serialize filter-column criteria
src/xlsx/worksheet-writer.ts, test/autofilter-columns.test.ts, test/xlsx-write-read-parity.test.ts
The writer serializes supported criteria and hidden-button flags. Tests cover round trips and value and custom filters in the parity fixture.

In-cell picture documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Document in-cell picture behavior
README.md, docs/PARITY.md
The documentation states that in-cell pictures stored as rich values are not read or preserved through an open-and-save cycle. It also distinguishes WPS DISPIMG support.

Some filter buttons may become visible after a workbook is saved again. The impact is limited, but the setting should be preserved.

Explanation

The title names the xlsx auto-filter read/write fix, which matches the changeset: the new AutoFilterColumn type, reader, serializeAutoFilter, and tests. It is specific and conveys the main change, though 'every' slightly overstates it because colour and icon criteria are still not carried.

Preserve showButton="0" on filtered columns.

When a <filterColumn> has showButton="0" and a supported criterion, this branch records the criterion but drops the button setting. The writer then emits the column without showButton, so the button becomes visible after a read–write cycle. Add a model field and carry this attribute through parsing and serialization. showButton controls filter-button visibility separately from hiddenButton. (learn.microsoft.com)

…imits, deep clone (#565)

Write and read a filterColumn that only sets hiddenButton/showButton; read
and write calendarType, top10 filterVal and dynamicFilter valIso/maxValIso;
throw InvalidArgumentError for more than two custom conditions or more than
one criterion kind per column rather than dropping them; cloneSheet now
deep-copies the auto filter.

The fixes merged since c991ad0 took every xlsx scenario over budget, and
the coverage + size job has been red on main since. The growth is the
work, not an accident; gzipped, against c991ad0:

  writeXlsx           37.9 -> 43.4 KB   (+5.5)
  read+write xlsx     71.3 -> 77.5 KB   (+6.2)
  readXlsx            37.5 -> 38.4 KB   (+0.9)

Where the writeXlsx bytes went, measured one commit at a time:

  +2.1 KB  #608  _xlfn./_xlpm. prefixes: the future-function list
  +1.5 KB #626 _xleta.: the built-in function list for helper slots
  +0.5 KB  #628  every auto-filter criterion kind
  +0.4 KB  #615  table total-row cells
  +0.3 KB #633 protection digests, untyped validations, <col> ranges
  +0.2 KB #629 review follow-ups (error tokens, cfvo prefixes, depth cap)
  <0.2 KB  each of #605 #609 #610 #612 #613 #619

Two thirds of it is the two function-name lists, which a writer needs
to emit formulas Excel computes instead of showing #NAME?. Budgets
rewritten with `node scripts/size.mjs --update` (+5% headroom).
