This is an automated cherry-pick of #6525

This is a pick from pingcap/tiflow#8544

What problem does this PR solve?

Issue Number: close #1616

What is changed and how it works?

Reject changefeed creation when the upstream has running Lightning physical import, BR restore, or IMPORT INTO tasks.

Before setting up the GC safepoint, query task registrations under /tidb/brie/import in the upstream PD's embedded etcd and check their lease TTLs. Active leases block creation, expired leases are ignored, and errors querying registrations or leases abort creation. Both API v1 and v2 use this check.

Check List

Tests

  • Unit test
  • Integration test

Questions

Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?

Release note

Fix an issue where a changefeed could be created while Lightning physical import, BR restore, or IMPORT INTO tasks were running on the upstream cluster, potentially causing incomplete replication.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Changefeed creation is now blocked while an upstream Lightning, restore, or import task is running. This prevents creation from proceeding until the task completes or its registration expires.
    • When creation is blocked, the error identifies the affected upstream and advises stopping the task, waiting for it to finish, or waiting for its registration to expire.

📝 Walkthrough

Changefeed creation now checks upstream etcd for active import-task leases before checking start-timestamp GC safety. The handler returns an error if the check finds an active import or encounters an etcd error. Tests cover Lightning, Restore, and Import-Into registrations.

Changes: Upstream import safeguard

Layer / File(s) Summary
Import-task detection and error
pkg/errors/error.go, api/v2/helper.go, api/v2/helper_test.go
A normalized error identifies the upstream ID and gives guidance for active imports. hasRunningImport checks matching etcd keys and lease TTLs. Tests cover empty and mixed lease states, active imports, and etcd API errors.
Changefeed creation guard
api/v2/changefeed.go, api/v2/changefeed_test.go
CreateChangefeed checks for running imports before the GC-safety check and returns if the check reports an error. Tests verify rejection for Lightning, Restore, and Import-Into registrations.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 57c84

Changefeed creation is now rejected when an upstream import, restore or IMPORT INTO task is running. The earlier conflict-marker and authentication-test concerns no longer apply at this head, and no concrete merge-blocking issue remains.

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 05be9

The intended safeguard fails closed and retains existing authentication controls, but the reviewed revision cannot deliver it: the shared creation path contains unresolved merge conflicts and incompatible validation code. The check also does not establish atomic exclusion between imports and changefeed creation.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · observed: The shared creation safeguard cannot be deployed from this revision. The inserted handler and tests retain conflict markers; retaining the inserted handler block also duplicates pdClient and references an active-active validator absent from the imported package. This leaves the intended creation eligibility control unavailable until release integration is completed.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Registration state can deny new changefeed creation across the configured upstream, not merely one requested keyspace: the helper scans a fixed upstream-wide prefix without keyspace filtering. This path does not alter existing changefeeds or grant callers registration-writing authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The control trusts leased registrations in the configured upstream's embedded etcd, rather than a caller assertion about import activity. Positive TTLs block creation and lookup failures fail closed. Producer authorization, registration completeness, and lease-to-task lifecycle correspondence were not verified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The gate is a preflight snapshot, not a reservation or atomic exclusion protocol: import registration can occur between the read and changefeed persistence unless producers coordinate externally. This overlap was already possible in the base, so it is a limitation of the new safeguard rather than evidence of a newly introduced vulnerability.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the required template, includes the issue reference, explains the behavior, lists unit and integration tests, and provides a release note. The Questions section does not include explicit answers, but the description is otherwise mostly complete.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The reviewed changes implement the stated import and restore guard. hasRunningImport checks /tidb/brie/import registrations and lease TTLs. CreateChangefeed calls the check before GC safepoint setup. API v1 forwards creation to the v2 handler, so the guard applies to both APIs. The added unit and API tests support this behavior. No unrelated change is identified in the supplied whole-PR summary.

A rabbit checks the leases in flight
And spots an import active tonight
The changefeed waits; the error is clear
“Stop or wait,” it says, “then try again, dear”
The rabbit hops, the tasks draw near
And leaves a tidy trail of cheer

Route the request through authentication middleware.

DeleteChangefeed does not authenticate the request. The test calls it directly, so it bypasses the authenticateMiddleware registered on the DELETE route and cannot produce the expected 401 Unauthorized. Send the request through the registered route or invoke the middleware in the test setup.

Resolve the cherry-pick conflict before merging.

The conflict markers make api/v2/changefeed.go invalid Go. api/v2/changefeed_test.go also contains conflict markers at Lines 55-56 and 168. If you retain this block, reconcile pdClient := at Line 203 with the existing declaration at Line 240. Removing the markers alone will not make the package compile.
