💡 What

Optimized the @jeanbot/ai package's synthetic vector generation and normalization logic.

🎯 Why

Synthetic vector generation is a deterministic but computationally expensive fallback for embeddings. The original implementation relied on high-overhead array methods and string-based numerical rounding, which created a bottleneck.

📊 Impact

  • Synthetic Vector Generation: ~4x faster (from ~8.8ms to ~2.1ms per 1536-dim vector).
  • Numerical Rounding: ~12x faster (replaced .toFixed(8) with Math.round math).
  • Resource Usage: Reduced garbage collection pressure by using pre-allocated arrays and one-shot hashing.

🔬 Measurement

Benchmarks were run using a local script generating 100 synthetic vectors.
Baseline: ~8.8ms/vector.
Optimized: ~2.1ms/vector.
Correctness verified via L2 magnitude checks and existing knowledge-service / memory-service unit tests.

- Replaced `crypto.createHash` with Node 22's one-shot `crypto.hash` API.
- Replaced slow `.toFixed(8)` rounding with fast `Math.round(x * 1e8) / 1e8` (~12x faster).
- Optimized `syntheticVector` and `normalizeVector` using manual for-loops and pre-allocated arrays.
- Measured ~4x speedup in synthetic vector generation (8.8ms -> 2.1ms per vector).
