Problem when using Turkgate. "Not Found" message when click on Mechanical Turk HIT.

Hello! I am a researcher using Turkgate - and I paste my survey link from qualtrics into the link space on Turkgate, everything is fine - I generate code to copy and paste into my HIT. However, when I post the HIT, if I click on "check eligibility" or "accept HIT" this is the message I receive. Trying to trouble shoot, thank you!!

Hi,

Can you double check to see if it is linking to your TurkGate installation?

Go to https://171.65.52.129/TurkGate/index.php in your browser.

If that works, you may be missing one file (checkID.php) which you can
download from github-- although a full re-install might be a safer option.

If that doesn't work, could you tell us where TurkGate is installed? i.e.,
How do you access the TurkGate main panel?

Hi Jeff, thank you for your help!

When I connect successfully to our server (by typing VNC:\171.65.52.129 in firefox, then connecting to 171.65.52.129
In the screen sharing app, then using the server name and password to get in — from THAT computer (the screenshared on the server) when I paste the address you said in I get that same “Not found message”.

When I try to connect to the TurkGate installation from my computer (not the server where it is housed / not getting into the screen sharing app), I get a message about going to an insecure connection

PS- I access the main panel within the screenshared server computer— we have it bookmarked in Firefox. I generate code just fine for the HIT on the Turkgate webpage, it’s when I use it that I run into the problem.

TurkGate needs to be hosted in a place that is accessible to your
participants. It's not clear whether this is the case.

On the server, you need to put TurkGate in a publicly accessible web space.
On some servers there is a folder called "public_www" for you to host
files. If you aren't sure, ask your server admin.

Once installed on the server, you should not need to VNC at all to access
TurkGate at all. You should access it via your browser.
