preview doesn't start

Mojang only added 1 call to MddBootstrapInitialize2 as part of the app runtime bootstrap (it's quite funny and slightly dumb, between 26.10 and 26.20 they added about 30 new dlls to the files that come with the game, but only make 1 call in just the one bootstrapper dll). If you stub this and delete the Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.Bootstrap.dll that comes with the game, it boots fine (see below).

Interesting, would probably have tried stubbing as well.
I never used any proton version myself and also do not really understand how that is built, imagine I get marketplace (including ms associated premium content with plain wine builds + curl with schannel and zero dependencies except wine itself

I would like to PR it but I don’t think it’s going to get merged any time soon if I did. I already have a PR open to stub xgameprotocol (#31) that has been sitting for 2+ months, so it’s likely Weather is taking a break or has moved on from this project. Either way, I do maintain my fork and intend to keep it working for future updates, so if you want to use it, you are able if inclined to do so.

Weather did say that he'd be disappearing for a bit, hopefully he'll be back soon. I also maintain a fork I regularly improve.

IMO one of the error could mean, wine returns E_NOTIMPL from package_manager2_FindPackagesByUserSecurityIdWithPackageTypes

Now cppwinrt picks this up and makes a c++ exception with the same error code

Are you all using GDK-Proton or some other prebuilt? Do you have an older wine prefix that might be not updated?, try wineboot -u. I am curious?

I cannot reproduce this problem, when building winegdk from source code and running 1.26.20 or the 1.26.30.27 preview?

I noticed Weather broke compiling the default branch this week, but this does not matter due to the 3months old copy working for me as well.

@ChristopherHX I think this only shows itself in GDK-Proton (WineGDK itself works fine). I am unsure exactly how Weather makes the GDK Proton builds but overriding the GDK-Proton combase.dll with the combase.dll compiled from WineGDK fixes the issue.

I, however, exclusively use partner builds (the ones with developer features and more game error logging). On launch on those versions, it immediately crashes with these logs on both GDK-Proton and WineGDK.

It ends up just being easier to stub the bootstrapper dll and return S_OK rather than to track down exactly where the issue is or try and implement what the dll does. However, for most people this won't actually be an issue since the normal release versions don't crash due to these errors.
