hi ! Thanks you for making this one, just out of curiosity, can't this be upstreamed to some official gentoo repo ?
I don't really know how gentoo works for these

I'm afraid I can't as I'm not a Gentoo dev (and won't be), hence why many build their own ebuild repo such as I did for asusctl. With regards to how Gentoo works, if it is not upstream the user has two options (a) search for an overlay (such as mine) or (b) compile it from scratch. Ebuild helps a lot as it checks for dependencies etc. Cheers Ps.: I am long dated user of asusctl from its first versions when Luke and ZappeL were building it up, so I thought to help here too.

@reckor-usa it can be pushed into guru (it's an official repo and you don't need to be a dev) but be sure to block the openrc: we don't provide any help nor accept any bugs opened against it. Also, you can ask to become a proxy maintainer and push it into gentoo repo if sam and other devs are ok with it.

Yeah, but Guru is not required and not my aim tbh. However, I did push it to the official gentoo overlay and should be available to all users within a day or two. Then they can simply run: eselect repository enable asusctl-gentoo-overlay emaint sync -r asusctl-gentoo-overlay emerge -av sys-power/asusctl Cheers

@reckor-usa you know we can't call it official if not maintained by OGC members, right? And we both know well what's the pain with gentoo (I used to be both gentoo user and proxy-maintainer for 3/4 years before leaving): maintaining a gentoo overlay is a complete pain in the ass and most of gentoo users wouldn't even consider it if not provided into an official gentoo repo.

Hi Marco, I didn't ask to make it official, just a way out for those using gentoo and don't want to deal with the dependencies which I've already done based on previous work from ZappeL. It is up to you/team to advise other users - perhaps a note this is unofficial and you won't provide any support. Just wanted to help... Gentoo overlays are not painful and everyone uses them when needed. Perhaps you just had a bad experience in the past. Best PS.: I'm a gentoo since it was almost born though it doesn't mean I'm a pro :)

@reckor-usa if you are willing to go with it I don't have anymore complain ;) I know how a pain is using gentoo so mine was simply an advice. I leave the end word to ghoul and/or nero but yes, I can say it will remain as an unofficial, limited support
