Lawrence Ding

EngSci ECE at the University of Toronto. 2T8 + PEY, looking for a 12/16-month PEY in hardware, with particular interest in digital design, ASICs, electronics, and embedded systems.

Courses I have taken / currently taking / will have taken by Summer 2027 include:

Have Taken: Electrical Circuits, Digital and Computer Systems, Electricity and Magnetism, Applied Fundamentals of Deep Learning

Currently Taking: Computer Organization, Electronics, Signal Analysis and Communication

Taking Next Term: Digital Electronics, Electronic Circutis, Introduction to Control Theory, Semiconductor Electronic Devices, Communication Systems

Outside of coursework, most of what I know about hardware I learned from designing boards for UTAT Space Systems, sending them to fab, and then testing them to find out what worked and what didn't.

PCB Projects

See all three in browser (schematic, layout, 3D render, BOM): laaaarry.github.io

STM32L496RG breakout: 4 layers, 57 components, two internal ground planes. Buffered I²C, CAN, and other breakouts. Brought up with an ST-LINK and verified on the scope: PWM at 2 kHz / 50 % duty, a clean I²C START-address-NACK, and CAN loopback with RX mirroring TX.

Onboard computer: 2 layers, 32 components. Simple OBC featuring the STM32F103, with buffered I²C, external oscillator, and power circuitry. Programmable through STLink. The first board I took from schematic to a working blink.

3V3 buck converter: 3V3 buck around an LMR50410. Target was under 100 mV output ripple; measured 36 mV pk-pk. First ever PCB I made.

Elsewhere

Some work I can't post: a NURBS geometry project for an industry partner through Riipen LevelUp, and a deep reinforcement learning research project optimizing the energy efficiency of User-Centric Cell-Free MIMO Networks with Professor Adve at UofT.

Happy to talk about either.
