I see there's some logic for specific flavors of linux, but I'm not convinced this is entirely dependent on distribution. I'm running same version of debian on different hardware (HP and lenovo), and the battery state files are named differently - eg. {energy,charge}_now.
PR #26 adds the possibility to resolve the filename prefixes during runtime dynamically.
