[BUG] Home page banner fails contrast and text-spacing requirements #1050
Component
EZID Home banner (.home-banner) and "Learn More About EZID" button
Describe the issue
The home page banner has two low-priority accessibility failures. White heading text does not have enough contrast against the light blue background, and increased text spacing causes the call-to-action button to move underneath the following card.
Affected findings
Audit row 4: White heading text on the light blue banner background does not meet minimum contrast requirements.
Audit row 12: Increased text spacing moves the "Learn More About EZID" button underneath the following card.
To Reproduce
Open the EZID home page.
Measure the banner text and background contrast.
Apply the WCAG text-spacing settings: line height 1.5 times the font size, paragraph spacing 2 times the font size, letter spacing 0.12 times the font size, and word spacing 0.16 times the font size.
Observe the banner button and the card below it.
Expected behavior
Banner text and controls meet minimum contrast requirements. Increasing text spacing does not cause overlap, clipping, or loss of content.
WCAG Standard
WCAG 2.0 SC 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum), Level AA
WCAG 2.1 SC 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast, Level AA
WCAG 2.1 SC 1.4.12 Text Spacing, Level AA
Recommended Fix
Darken the banner gradient enough to meet the required contrast ratios. Adjust the banner layout and spacing rules so the button remains in the normal flow when text spacing increases.
Acceptance Criteria
Normal-size banner text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
Relevant non-text controls and visual boundaries have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1.
The banner remains readable and usable with the WCAG text-spacing settings at supported viewport sizes.
