Use dolt as the backend DB?

This is definitely just an idea for brainstorming rather than a feature request - feel free to shoot down in flames!

It occurred to me that Dolt might be a really cool drop-in replacement for the SQLite DB which forge currently uses. It is fully FOSS (of course, otherwise I would not suggest it), and it should work pretty much out of the box given that it was designed to be a drop-in replacement. The benefit would be that it brings git-like version control for the database, which could be handy... or maybe it's overkill 😅 Just an idea.

BTW I'm doing a quick experiment to vibe-code "madolt" - a minimal equivalent of magit for Dolt; if I have any success with that I'll certainly publish it.

I have mixed feelings about it, and just realized I might be going through the five stages of grief. I only recently entered the second stage, when slop started arriving. Maybe I have made it to the third already ("my work will have a greater effect, but I'll probably soon not be able to make a living anymore"), we'll see.

I have also been going through these stages. I've been coding since 1981, and those decades of hard-earned experience feel significantly diminished as I watch junior colleagues now able to churn out incredibly complex (and often very good) PRs in record time. Nevertheless I think experience still counts for a lot, and actually probably even more than ever for those of us who choose to embrace AI. The difference is that after learning how to use it effectively, we can now move multiples faster than before, and the vast increases in productivity open up many exciting opportunities. But yes as a fellow FOSS project maintainer (albeit one who has contract work rather than relying on crowd-funding), I can definitely empathise with your position.
